Job Title: Legal Counsel (Real Estate) Job Posting Number: 2026-0364 Posting Type: Internal and External Posting Period: Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. to Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. Department: Legal Services & Risk Management Union: Non-Union Position Status: Temporary Full-Time Job Code: NU0374 Grade/Class: 013 Number of Positions: 1 Rate of Pay: $121,335.12 - $147,484.23 annually Hours of Work per Week: 35 hours Shift Work Required: No Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Deputy City Solicitor, this position will be responsible for: Providing legal services to the Corporation in all areas of the law as necessary, with an emphasis on real estate and corporate/commercial law; Representing the City in real estate and corporate transactions; Providing legal support to the Corporation in its capacity as service manager in the administration of various programs and related funding from upper levels of government; Drafting agreements, by-laws, policies and reports to CAO and Council; Preparing legal opinions for the guidance of City Council and Administration; Preparation of a variety of legal documents, including agreements, leases, contracts etc., in conjunction with other parties to obtain and clarify background information, and ensure regulatory and legislative requirements are met; Providing additional legal services to the Corporation as may be required, which may include representation before the courts, administrative boards and tribunals; Performing Occupational Health and Safety duties as outlined in the Corporate Health and Safety Program; and Performing other related duties as required. Qualifications: Must have a JD, LLB or equivalent and two (2) years of broad legal experience after being called to the Bar, with emphasis on real estate and corporate/commercial law; Must be in and maintain good standing with the Law Society of Ontario; A basic knowledge of municipal law and the Municipal Act, 2001 would be an asset; Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful driver’s license is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment; Must be fully computer literate and well versed in the MS Office suite, particularly Outlook and Word; Must be able to effectively use Westlaw@Carswell and Internet resources for legal research; Must have strong interpersonal, negotiation, and verbal and written communication skills; Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.
