Our team works together to create a welcoming environment where residents feel respected, supported, and connected. *Position Summary* We are seeking a qualified Cook to join the Food Services team at Highview Lucan. This is a part-time unionized position with a guaranteed minimum of 15 hours every other week, with additional casual and on-call opportunities available. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious, appealing meals and snacks according to established menus, recipes, dietary requirements, and food safety standards. The Cook will work closely with the Chef and the broader Highview team to ensure residents receive meals that meet their individual needs and contribute to their overall quality of life. This position requires hands-on cooking experience or formal culinary education. It is not suitable for applicants whose experience is limited to fast-food or counter-service environments. Schedule Requirement * Every other weekend ? Saturday and Sunday * Minimum 15 hours guaranteed every other week * Additional casual/on-call shifts may be available * Holiday availability as outlined in the collective agreement Applicants must be able to commit to the every-other-weekend schedule. *Reports To* Chef / Food Service Coordinator Key Qualifications & Attributes * Demonstrated hands-on cooking experience OR formal culinary education * Experience preparing meals in a high-volume, institutional, retirement, healthcare, restaurant, or similar food service environment is an asset * Strong spoken and written English communication skills * Ability to read, understand, and follow menus, recipes, dietary instructions, and written procedures * Understanding of food safety, sanitation, temperature control, and safe food handling practices * Ability to prepare meals that accommodate a variety of dietary needs, preferences, textures, and restrictions * Commitment to working respectfully with seniors, people living with dementia, and adults with developmental disabilities * Compassion, patience, and a genuine interest in creating a positive mealtime experience for residents * Ability to adapt to changing and sometimes unpredictable situations * Reliable attendance, punctuality, and accountability * Ability to work effectively within a team-based, interprofessional environment * Ability to communicate respectfully with residents, families, team members, and visitors * Ability to obtain and maintain: * Vulnerable Sector Police Check * CPR & First Aid Certification *Please note:* Experience limited to fast-food or counter-service environments does not meet the requirements of this position. *Key Responsibilities* * Review daily updates, communications, resident needs, and dietary information at the beginning of each shift * Prepare meals and snacks according to established rotating menus and recipes * Follow all dietary requirements, food allergies, texture modifications, and individual resident preferences * Prepare and serve meals that are nutritious, appealing, appropriately portioned, and presented with care * Prepare foods in advance as directed, including soups, salads, baked goods, desserts, and other menu items * Ensure appropriate food temperatures are maintained and documented * Follow all food safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and safe food handling practices * Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, food preparation areas, storage areas, and equipment * Properly store, label, date, and rotate food products * Monitor food supplies and communicate shortages or concerns to the Chef * Minim
