Town of Qualicum BeachGIS StudentTemporary Full TimeJob Competition No. 2026-19 The Town of Qualicum Beach is seeking applications from energetic and enthusiastic candidates for the available position of GIS Student in our Information Technology Department. The successful applicant will support the Information Technology Department while gaining hands-on experience with local government GIS systems, tools, and processes.This position will be available on a temporary full-time basis for a period of up to four (4) months with an anticipated start date of January 2027.Typical duties will include: Assist with digitization of municipal property service lines and points, incorporating record drawing information into the Town?s enterprise geodatabase, and using FME and AI tools as appropriate. Assist with QA/QC and updating digital service card records using legacy service cards, record drawings, orthophotos, and oblique imagery. Gain practical experience with advanced GIS tools and platforms, such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, FME, and VertiGIS Studio, while supporting ongoing departmental initiatives. Collaborate closely with the GIS staff to learn municipal GIS workflows and support the delivery of GIS services. Assist in developing ArcGIS Survey123 forms to support the transition of paper-based, Excel-based, and PDF-based workflows into digital processes. Survey municipal assets using GPS devices and ArcGIS Field Maps to add or update asset geometry and location. Communicate identified GIS data issues and work with GIS staff to explore practical solutions. Required qualifications include: Completion of grade 12 or equivalent; Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution (full-time or part-time). Enrollment in a GIS-related program or discipline is considered an asset. A valid Class 5 Driver?s License with a safe driving record. Experience or familiarity with the Esri platform (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Enterprise/ Online) and an understanding of relational database systems. Ability to work effectively as a team and good interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person. Interest in learning new GIS tools, technologies and municipal processes. Preferred assets: Familiarity with engineering drawings and Land Surveying Familiarity of python and arcade programming languages Exposure to or familiarity with various GIS technologies as follows: FME ArcGIS Field Maps ArcGIS Survey123 ArcGIS Dashboards ArcGIS Experience Builder or VertiGIS Studio The terms and conditions of employment are covered by the CUPE Local 401 Collective Agreement. The rate of pay is $22.37/hr. Successful applicants will be expected to work 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
