Town of Qualicum BeachBuilding Inspector II or IIIPermanent Full TimeJob Competition No. 2026-18Join our exceptional team at the Town of Qualicum Beach! The Town is seeking applications for the position of Building Inspector II or III in the Planning and Community Development department on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Director of Planning and Community Development, the Building Inspector is responsible for the administration, interpretation and enforcement of the BC Building Code, Building Bylaw and other applicable regulations. The successful candidate will review building permit applications, conduct inspections, provide technical advice to the public, support other departments on building-related matters, and work collaboratively with staff to ensure safe and compliant construction throughout the community.Duties include: Administration, interpretation and enforcement of the BC Building Code, Town of Qualicum Beach Building Bylaw, and other applicable bylaws. Efficient organization and delivery of building inspection from initial enquiry and application through plan checking, inspections to monitor compliance, record keeping, calculating fees (including Development Cost Charges), and writing letters and reports. Working with the Bylaw Enforcement Officers and other staff on related enforcement activities. Other duties as assigned.Required qualifications include: Completion of grade 12 or equivalent; Building Officials? Association of BC Building Inspector Certificate (Level II or III); Plumbing Officials? Association of BC Level 1 Plumbing Inspection Certificate; A trade certificate in carpentry or plumbing or a building or civil technology diploma; Valid Class 5 BC driver?s licence; Knowledge of Provincial Codes and Regulations, Land Use Bylaws and the planning approval process; Demonstrated advanced organizational skills, with strong written and oral communication abilities; Demonstrated solutions-oriented attitude; Excellent interpersonal and customer services skills; Knowledge of municipal property and administration systems and experience with ?Municipal Accounting & Information Software? (MAIS) and computer applications, such as GIS, word processing, spreadsheets and database software will be considered an asset; and Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions in collaboration with other staff members and the public.Note: An equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge will be considered if deemed acceptable by the employer.The terms and conditions of employment are covered by the CUPE Local 401 Collective Agreement. The rate of pay per position is $44.50/hour for Building Inspector II and $48.63/hour for Building Inspector III (2026 wage rate - compensation is currently under review) plus a generous benefit package. The successful applicant will be expected to work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will be required to provide a recent driver?s license abstract. Shortlisted applicants may be required to undergo a verification of their skills by completing writing, computer and/or skill testing assessments.Please note, the position may be filled at the Building Inspector II or III level, depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to work toward their Building Inspector III qualifications within an agreed timeframe.
