Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I(2 Positions)Position Status: Full-Time RegularDepartment: Liquid Waste ServicesEmployee Group: GVRDEULocation: Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, RichmondSalary Range/ Wage Rate: $37.64 hourly plus 6.25% deferred compensation (2024 wage rates)This role receives an additional 6.25% deferred compensation on hours worked. The additional 6.25% can be taken as compensation or time off. Our Liquid Waste Services Department is seeking two Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Is who will support the safe and effective operation of the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant by monitoring treatment processes, assisting with equipment maintenance and repairs, perform lockouts, collecting process samples, performing routine testing and troubleshooting, and helping ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards. You are a safety-conscious and reliable team player with a strong mechanical aptitude and interest in wastewater operations. You are certified with EOCP as a MWWTP Operator, willing to learn, and pursue ongoing professional certifications and training. You communicate effectively, take initiative, and are committed to maintaining operational excellence while protecting public and environmental health. You are self-motivated, accountable, and punctual. And you are able to work a modified shift of Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday (8 hours per day) if required. This role: (The duties described hereunder are intended to be representative of the position and are not to be considered all inclusive.) Performs and assists in the operation and monitoring of equipment throughout the plant. Performs and assists in the maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, motors, valves, instruments, etc. Performs and assists in a variety of process sampling operations and simple laboratory tests. Lubricates and cleans machinery and equipment; performs ?housekeeping? and general maintenance work throughout the plant. Assists in maintaining operating records. Operates ancillary equipment such as trucks, small tractors, lawn mowers, pressure washers, etc. Assists in the development of documentation for work-related procedures. Works in compliance with all District safety policies, procedures and WCB regulations. To be successful, you have: Grade 12 education or equivalent. Possess or be able and qualified to secure British Columbia EOCP Class I MWWT Operators Certification. Demonstrated willingness and ability to undertake additional training relating to the duties of the position including progress towards WWTPO IV Certification. The highest EOCP MWWT Certificate or recognized reciprocal equivalent achieved shall be maintained in good standing and a copy of the Certificate shall be filed in the employee file in Human Resources as proof of eligibility. British Columbia Boiler Operator or higher level certification for Plants where certification of Operators is required for compliance with the Power Engineers and Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act of British Columbia. If no Boiler Operator certification is held, a demonstrated willingness and ability to obtain it. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively use computer applications related to the position and duties. Working knowledge of process equipment. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards, WCB regulations, safety policies and procedures applicable to the position. Physically capable of performing the duties of the position. Willingness and ability to adapt to rotating shift work and/or be available for standby duty if required. Valid B.C. driver?s license.
