Job description
The Training Supervisor is responsible for developing, delivering, coordinating, and maintaining technical and operational training for employees working in the Power & Recovery areas of the pulp mill. The role supports safe, reliable, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation by ensuring operators have the knowledge, practical skills, qualifications, and demonstrated competency required for their positions.

Work directly with the Department Manager to develop Line of Progression (LOP)training including training plans, competency profiles, assessment tools and evaluation methods

Coordinate weekly training meetings with employee providing coaching support, identifying training gaps and developing plans to address gaps and maintain employee training records

Review and edit line of progression training and training matrices

Review area SOP’s and lockouts as required

Conduct one-on-one training with operators using a variety of training methods (i.e. classroom, on the job, online)

Work with Human Resources, Health and Safety and Technical services to coordinate corporate and Mill wide training

Assist with area outage and shutdown planning

Work with Shift Supervisors to plan training schedules

Provide relief supervision duties as required

Critical Competencies:
Education and Experience, Leadership, Technical, Innovation and Work Complexity
- Power Engineering certification is appropriate to provincial and site requirements.
- Experience as a Shift Engineer, Control Room Operator, Lead Hand, Supervisor, or Operations Trainer with significant operating experience in Power & Recovery or comparable kraft pulp mill operations.
- Strong practical knowledge of recovery boilers, power boilers, steam systems, turbines, recausticizing, lime kilns, utilities, and industrial process equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe operating practices and the ability to coach safe, disciplined work execution.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and coaching skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in practical operator-level language.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with DCS systems, process historians, electronic documentation, and training systems.
- Experience developing competency-based operator qualification programs.
