Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Machine tool technology/machinist. Tasks: Compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of workpieces . Inspect final products. Set up machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders. Test prototypes and production tools. Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Program CNC machine tools. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining. Set up and operate conventional and computer controlled machine tools. Operate machining tools to fabricate parts. Supervision: Tool and die makers. Equipment and machinery experience: Stamping machine. Own tools/equipment: Tools. Steel-toed safety boots. Safety glasses/goggles. Gloves.
