Job description

Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Telecommunications technology/technician. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Outdoors. At heights. Confined spaces. Work setting: Installation. Urban area. Maintenance. On-site customer service. Repair. Various locations. Service. Commercial. Military base or location. Tasks: Read blueprints to determine work requirements . Test equipment to locate transmission faults. Install trunking systems, circuits and equipment. Complete and maintain test and service reports. Determine nature, cause and location of trouble. Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders or other support structures. Connect, disconnect and relocate cable outlets. Determine work assignments. Install cable modems and software to enable Internet access. Splice, join and connect wires. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Equipment and machinery experience: Fibre optics. Copper. Cable outlets. Splitters. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Repetitive tasks. Ability to distinguish between colours. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Manual dexterity. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots.
