Job description

Education: Bachelor's degree. Forestry, general. Forest sciences and biology. Forest management/forest resources management. Forest technology/technician. Work setting: Private sector. Rural area. Remote location. Consulting firm. Various locations. Tasks: Assess the current status of a given area for sustainable forest management. Conduct a post-cut assessment to determine whether the residual forest that was forecasted during the tree marking audit matches the conditions after the harvest is complete. Conduct forest inventory cruises, surveys and field measurement. Conduct ongoing inspections to ensure the development of good quality forest crops. Display spatial data using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Help forest managers in planning access routes and forest roads. Monitor the effectiveness of silvicultural practices. Supervise forest inventory cruises, surveys and field measurement. Supervise technical functions in silvicultural operation. Supervise the construction of access routes and forest roads. Update computerized forest management information system. Monitor activities of logging companies and contractors. Enforce environmental, fire safety and accident prevention regulation. Develop and maintain computer databases. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Bear awareness Certification. S-100 basic fire suppression and safety training. Technical experience: Stand descriptive cruising. Increment boring techniques. Forest cover mapping. Soil analysis. Area of work experience: Consulting. Specialization or experience: Specialized environmental skills and knowledge. Area of specialization: Forest engineering and harvesting. Silviculture. Reforestation and tree improvement. Forest pathology, entomology and pest management. Wildlife ecology and management. Forest hydrology. Recreational land management. Land and forest classification. Forest measurement and inventory assessment. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Transportation/travel information: Willing to travel. Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel regularly.
