Job description

Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Plumbing technology/plumber. Plumbing and related water supply services, other. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Confined spaces. Wet/damp. Work setting: Various locations. Commercial. Residential. Construction site. Tasks: Install domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems. Repair domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems. Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems. Instruct apprentices. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors. Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges. Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing. Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size. Ensure electrical and plumbing installations meet government regulation. Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems, and contact tradespersons for major repairs. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Plumber Red Seal Certificate. Types of systems: Plumbing, cold water and drain lines. Parts specialization: Plumbing. Security and safety: Bondable. Basic security clearance. Criminal record check. Driving record check (abstract). Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Hand-eye co-ordination. Handling heavy loads. Large workload. Work under pressure. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent oral communication. Judgement. Team player.
