POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, this role leads the planning and delivery of marketing initiatives for the Canadian Bar Association, Alberta Branch (CBA Alberta), while contributing to selected cross-branch initiatives with the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch (CBABC). This is a hands-on role combining marketing planning, project management and execution.
Working across professional development, membership, events and other organizational initiatives, the Specialist develops promotional plans, creates compelling content and manages campaign delivery across email, social media, web and other channels.
The role also provides communications support and coverage across broader organizational functions, including governance, advocacy, media relations and editorial initiatives, as required. The Specialist works closely with the BC-based Marketing Specialist to share ideas and expertise, identify opportunities for efficient cross-branch delivery, review and support each other’s work and lead selected campaigns across both branches.
The ideal candidate is an experienced marketing and communications generalist who combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, takes initiative and can independently move projects from planning through delivery. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Marketing and Campaign Planning Develop promotional plans for Alberta programs, professional development, events, membership initiatives and other organizational priorities. Translate project objectives into clear audiences, key messages, channels, tactics and timelines. Lead assigned marketing campaigns from planning through delivery, exercising judgement within established strategies and priorities. Brief and provide project direction to the Marketing & Communications Coordinator and Graphic & Digital Designer for assigned campaign work. Execute marketing campaigns across email, social media, web, newsletters and other channels. Monitor campaign performance and identify opportunities to strengthen promotional approaches based on audience needs, organizational priorities and previous campaign performance. Communications & Organizational Support Provide communications support for organizational priorities, including governance, advocacy, media relations, editorial content and organizational publications. Draft, edit and coordinate communications materials for a range of audiences and purposes, working within established messaging, organizational positions and approval processes. Support the delivery of time-sensitive or emerging communications needs, working with the Manager and relevant subject-matter leads. Develop familiarity with key communications functions and workflows across the team to provide effective support and coverage during absences and periods of increased workload. Apply sound judgement, accuracy and appropriate tone when working with sensitive, reputational or stakeholder-facing communications. Project Management and Alberta Market Insight Manage assigned projects, timelines and deliverables, coordinating input and approvals from relevant stakeholders. Work directly with Alberta staff and stakeholders on assigned projects to understand objectives, requirements and audiences. Build effective working relationships with Alberta colleagues to support the successful delivery of marketing initiatives. Maintain awareness of Alberta market trends, member needs and developments relevant to the legal profession, bringing local insights and opportunities into team planning. Identify project risks, competing priorities or issues requiring escalation to the Manager. Cross-Branch Collaboration and Team Support Work closely with the BC-based Marketing Specialist to share ideas, expertise, resources and campaign
