Food Manufacturing Location: Mississauga / Etobicoke, Ontario Department: Procurement Reports To: Director of Procurement Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Work Location: In Person Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Buyer to join our Procurement team in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The Buyer is responsible for purchasing food ingredients, packaging, and supplies from pre-approved suppliers at negotiated rates, while maintaining accurate inventory levels, Par Values, and Days on Hand. The Buyer will ensure materials are available to support production and customer requirements while minimizing excess, obsolete, and perishable inventory. Key Responsibilities · Manage daily purchasing and maintain accurate inventory information in the ERP system. · Review forecasts, product usage, inventory levels, Par Values, and Days on Hand to determine purchasing requirements. · Create and manage POs across multiple product categories and suppliers. · Provide suppliers with forecasts and follow-up on orders, availability, lead times, and deliveries. · Ensure purchases are made from approved suppliers at negotiated pricing. · Expedite deliveries when required and proactively communicate potential shortages or delays. · Verify quantities, pricing, quality, shelf life, and delivery of incoming products. · Resolve supplier issues including shortages, damage, quality concerns, rejected products, pricing discrepancies, and late deliveries. · Work with Warehouse, QA, Production, Finance, and Procurement to resolve inventory, quality, receiving, and invoice issues. · Obtain supplier credits, refunds, rebates, or returns for damaged, excess, or non-moving inventory. · Monitor and reduce dead, slow-moving, excess, and expiring inventory. · Support supplier negotiations and identify cost-saving opportunities. · Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, pricing, and inventory records. · Provide inventory and purchasing updates to management as required. · Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs. Requirements · Minimum 5 years of food purchasing/procurement experience, preferably in food manufacturing. · Strong understanding of purchasing, inventory management, forecasting, and logistics. · Experience managing multiple suppliers and negotiating pricing and terms. · Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. · ERP experience with strong Excel, Word, and Outlook skills. · Excellent communication and supplier relationship-management skills. · Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. · Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. · Professional, diplomatic, and persistent when dealing with suppliers. · Must reside within approximately 30 minutes of the work location. · Flexibility to work outside regular hours/weekends when required by business needs.
