Job description

Belvedere Care Centre is seeking an experienced Executive Chef lead to lead our dietary team and oversee the preparation of delicious, nutritious, and high-quality meals for our residents. The successful candidate will bring strong culinary and leadership skills, a thorough understanding of nutrition and food services?particularly within *gerontology and long-term care*?and a genuine commitment to supporting resident well-being. As a key member of our team, the Executive Chef will provide leadership and direction to dietary staff, ensure food safety and quality standards are consistently maintained, and work collaboratively with our *Dietitian* to plan menus that meet residents' nutritional, therapeutic, and individual dietary needs. Key Responsibilities * Lead, supervise, and provide direction to food service staff, fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative team environment. * Oversee the preparation, presentation, and service of meals to ensure food is nutritious, appetizing, and meets established quality standards. * Ensure food is prepared and served in accordance with applicable food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention standards. * Monitor food for *taste, palatability, temperature, portion size, and overall quality*. * Assess food and supply requirements based on resident census, nutritional needs, therapeutic diets, and menu requirements. * Order, receive, organize, and manage food, kitchen supplies, and inventory effectively. * Collaborate with the onsite *Dietitian *to develop, review, and update menus and therapeutic diets. * Ensure meals and dietary services accommodate residents' nutritional requirements, allergies, preferences, and therapeutic needs. * Conduct and participate in required audits and quality assurance activities to ensure food service standards are consistently met. * Monitor meals being served to ensure established standards for *quality, quantity, nutrition, and presentation* are maintained. * Support staff training and development related to food preparation, sanitation, food safety, and resident dietary requirements. * Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and resident-centred service within the dietary department. Qualifications & Experience * Graduation from a recognized *Culinary Arts or Professional Cooking program*. * *FoodSafe Level 2* certification. * *3?5 years of supervisory experience*, preferably in a long-term care, healthcare, or retirement living environment. * Strong knowledge of nutrition, food safety, sanitation, and therapeutic diets, with knowledge of *gerontology and the nutritional needs of older adults* considered an asset. * Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. * Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. * Strong inventory management and food-cost awareness. * A *two-year Food Service Management program* is required, or willingness to complete the program. * Active membership in the *Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM)* is required, or willingness to pursue membership.
