The successful candidate will be responsible for recommending, developing, and coordinating projects and policy directions related to solid waste management and will lead the process to update and implement the FVRD?s solid waste management plan. They will help the FVRD stay aware of the latest relevant legislation, research, innovations, and challenges pertaining to solid waste management and will identify and communicate potential environmental and socio-economic impacts on the region to FVRD and member municipality staff. The position will require a candidate to possess and maintain a strong level of knowledge on applicable provincial and federal legislation and policies, to have the ability to make presentations to the Regional Board and at conferences, meetings, or professional forums, and to facilitate discussions amongst stakeholders, agencies, consultants, and the public. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an environmental professional to work in a collaborative work environment, to make a positive impact, and to champion solid waste solutions within the region. Required knowledge, experience, and abilities: A Master?s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, or other similar degree is preferred, in addition to related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; Preferably five (5) years of experience in local government service delivery and knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures pertaining to Regional Districts and related environmental matters; Experience in project management, conducting research, feasibility studies, and risk assessments; Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, stakeholders, co-workers, and the public; Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly and to converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, senior staff, and the general public; Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to prepare well written technical and administrative reports; Must possess a valid Driver?s Licence.
