Job description

Our Saskatchewan Distribution group is expanding to support a multi-year service agreement, with the potential to run through 2032, and we are currently looking to add Powerline Technician (PLT) Apprentices to our team, based in Unity, SK.Reporting to the Crew Foreman, PLT Apprentices assist with the operation, maintenance, construction and salvage of overhead and underground electric distribution systems, drive and operate line trucks and associated equipment, and perform other miscellaneous duties as required.We are open to new Apprentices looking to start their journey, as well as Level One through Four who are registered with the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) and looking to continue working towards their Interprovincial Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate.Please Note: This position works a Monday ? Friday, 7:00 AM ? 5:00 PM schedule (Monday ? Thursday, 12 hours / day when daylight allows). Candidates must reside locally in Saskatchewan or be willing to relocate on their own. We also have a PPE and FR Clothing program for our employees to ensure you have what you need to work safely at all times.Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork with a Journeyman Powerline Technician and gain hours towards obtaining Journeyperson Powerline Technician CertificateAssist with the construction of new overhead and underground power line facilities and modifications or extensions of existing facilitiesErect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wiresSplice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution networksOpen and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment under the direct supervision of a Journeyman or ForemanClimb poles and/or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on polesInstall and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestalsInstall pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devicesCover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting serviceUse insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line workBe available to handle urgent or emergency situations, and to restore or assist in restoring electrical service following outages during and after normal working hours including weekdays, weekends and statutory holidaysRequirementsEnrolled, or eligible to enroll, as a Powerline Technician (PLT) Apprentices with the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification CommissionValid Driver's License and ability to provide a clean Drivers AbstractKnowledge of trade safety practices, procedures and safety requirementsExperience supporting Distribution networks between 14.4kV - 25kVReside locally within SaskatchewanPreferred Skills / QualificationsPrevious experience supporting SaskPower infrastructure Class 1A Driver's LicenceLevel One, Two, Three or Four Powerline Technician (PLT) ApprenticeBenefitsWe offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits, including an RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.
