Job description
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Mechanic and repair technologies/technicians, other. Nautical science/merchant marine officer. Work site environment: Confined spaces. Dangerous. Noisy. In/on water. Work setting: Staff accommodation available. Staff accommodation provided. Various locations. Ship. Tasks: Conduct maintenance and emergency repairs to engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Inspect maintenance and emergency repairs done on engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Operate main engines, machinery and auxiliary equipment on ships. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of engine room crew. Stand engine room watch, monitoring and noting performance of engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Maintain records and prepare reports on engine performance and failures. Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment. Administer first aid in emergency situations. Ensure that the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of systems meet Transport Canada and company standards of performance and safety. Supervision: 3-4 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : 2nd Class Marine Engineer Certificate. Transport Canada Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency. Type of experience: Tank vessel. Marine transportation company. Transportation/travel information: Willing to travel regularly. Willing to travel cross-border. Willing to travel for extended periods. Willing to travel internationally. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Physically demanding. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination.
