Known for its exceptional quality of life, the City is supported by a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about delivering outstanding public service.We are seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Advisor to join our team. Reporting to the Manager of Employee Services & Occupational Safety, this regular full-time position serves as the City's primary occupational health and safety resource.As the City's OH&S subject matter expert, the incumbent will lead and influence health and safety programs and initiatives across all departments. Working closely with employees, supervisors, managers, and joint committees, the incumbent will provide guidance, support regulatory compliance, strengthen safety performance and promote a culture of prevention and continuous improvement.Responsibilities: Serve as the City's OH&S subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to employees, supervisors, managers, joint committees, and external stakeholders. Lead the day-to-day delivery, coordination, administration, and continuous improvement of the City's OH&S programs, policies, procedures, and safe work practices. Build and maintain strong relationships across departments to understand operational needs, identify hazards and risks, and develop practical effective safety solutions. Provide guidance and leadership in incident and injury reporting, investigations, corrective actions planning, and follow-up activities. Develop, implement, review, and maintain occupational health and safety policies, programs, procedures, standards, and related documentation. Interpret and apply WorkSafeBC legislation, regulations, and guidelines, translating requirements for City operations. Liaise with WorkSafeBC and coordinate the City's response to inspections, inquiries, investigations, and regulatory compliance requirements. Lead and coordinate the City's Occupational First Aid Program. Assess organizational safety training needs and coordinate the delivery of OH&S training initiatives. Provide technical expertise and support to Joint Health and Safety Committees and departments on workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk assessments.Qualifications: Completion of a recognized degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline, AND/OR a diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, supplemented by a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Three to five years of progressively responsible occupational health and safety experience. Municipal or public sector experience is preferred. Strong knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, and related legislation, regulations, and best practices. Demonstrated experience developing and administering occupational health and safety programs and procedures. Experience conducting incident investigations, workplace inspections, and risk assessments. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience with enterprise resource planning systems.
