Job description

Education: College/CEGEP. Work site environment: Confined spaces. Dangerous. Noisy. In/on water. Work setting: Staff accommodation provided. Tasks: Conduct maintenance and emergency repairs to engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Inspect maintenance and emergency repairs done on engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Operate main engines, machinery and auxiliary equipment on ships. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of engine room crew. Stand engine room watch, monitoring and noting performance of engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Maintain records and prepare reports on engine performance and failures. Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment. Administer first aid in emergency situations. Ensure that the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of systems meet Transport Canada and company standards of performance and safety. Supervision: Staff in various areas of responsibility. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : 4th Class Marine Engineer Certificate. 3rd Class Marine Engineer Certificate. Transport Canada Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency. Type of maintenance: Marine engines. Type of experience: Tank vessel. Marine transportation company. Transportation/travel information: Travel expenses paid by employer.
