Job description

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work site environment: Dusty. Hot. Noisy. Work setting: Manufacture. Tasks: Interpret welding process specifications. Operate manual or semi-automatic, fully automated welding equipment. Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes. Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications. Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment. Operate brakes, shears and other metal shaping, straightening and bending machines. Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air), (AOC). Determine weldability of materials. Operate hoisting and lifting equipment. Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products. Maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing and soldering equipment. Train or assist in the training of other workers. Inspect products to ensure quality and conformity to specification. Inspect workplaces for safety or health hazards. Co-ordinate work activities with other departments. Co-ordinate, assign and review work. Establish work priorities and ensure procedures are followed and deadlines are met. Supervision: Welders. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Occupational Health and Safety Certificate. CPR Certificate. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Type of materials: Stainless steel. Steel, iron and heavy metals. Welding techniques: Resistance, spot or seam. Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Gas metal arc welding (GMAW). Flux core arc welding (FCAW). Automated. Fusion welds. Robotic equipment and systems. Equipment and machinery experience: Arc welding machine. Butt or seam resistance welding machine. Gas welding machine. Spot welding machine. Area of specialization: Custom fabrication. Machinery or equipment repair. Structural construction. Factory assembly.
