Farm labourer - livestock

Education: No degree, certificate or diploma. Work site environment: Chicken farming. Hog and pig farming. Layer poultry farming. Dusty. Hot. Noisy. Odours. Wet/damp. Dirty. Work setting: Rural area. Tasks: Disinfect pens, barns or poultry houses. Handling animals. Monitoring animal health. Perform livestock feeding. Perform pig littering activities such as clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medication(s), identification of piglets, and castration. Treat livestock health issues. Weaning. Feed and tend animals. Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment. Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed. Select livestock for sale. Supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs. Clean stables, barns, barnyards and pens. Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock and poultry. Perform general farm duties. Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens and chicken coops. Equipment and machinery experience: Automated manure handling or storage system.
