Job description
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Nautical science/merchant marine officer. Marine transportation, other. Work site environment: Confined spaces. Dangerous. Noisy. In/on water. Work setting: Staff accommodation provided. Tasks: Conduct maintenance and emergency repairs to engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Inspect maintenance and emergency repairs done on engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Operate main engines, machinery and auxiliary equipment on ships. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of engine room crew. Stand engine room watch, monitoring and noting performance of engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment. Maintain records and prepare reports on engine performance and failures. Perform administrative tasks. Office management. Dispatch personnel as required by emergency situations. Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment. Administer first aid in emergency situations. Ensure that the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of systems meet Transport Canada and company standards of performance and safety. Supervision: 5-10 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : 1st Class Marine Engineer Certificate. Transport Canada Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency. Type of experience: Tank vessel. Marine transportation company. Transportation/travel information: Willing to travel regularly. Travel expenses paid by employer. Willing to travel cross-border.
