Job description
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Asset languages: English, Middle (1100-1500). Work site environment: In/on water. Tasks: Command and operate ships or vessels to transport passengers and cargo. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of deck crews. Ensure safety and comfort of passengers. Determine geographical position using navigational instruments, maps and charts. Maintain vessel's navigational instruments and equipment. Control, steer and navigate a vessel in various waterways. Enforce regulations in Canadian waters. Record vessel's progress, weather and sea conditions in ship's log. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Transport Canada Certificate of Competency. Nautical Institute Certificate. Marine Officer Certificate. Marine Emergency Duty (MED) Training Program. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Medical exam. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Travel expenses paid by employer. Public transportation is available. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Ability to distinguish between colours. Sound discrimination. Combination of sitting, standing, walking.
